2820 delivery

Beitragvon caratz » 26.06.2006, 19:53

I got a mail from my guys that the 2820 that I ordered will be delivered this week sometime. Unfortunately, the importers of Garmin in Belgium will not have the SP control cradle with the added buttons. There were not enough orders for it.

I had been in touch with them, but they turned me off when they told me that they couldn't or wouldn't fit their system on the BMW original Navigator adaptor for the GT. I'd sent them the parts fiche, and they told me that their stuff wouldn't fit, because it's not centered between both ends of the steering. Well I got news for them, the holes in the adaptor aren't centered either. I doubt very much that they will deliver their cradle without the GPS.

So I ordered the 2820 and will use it without cradle, untill one eventually comes on the market, if necessary. Probably by then I won't want it.

Apart of that, I'll not require the pretext of going there to visit you, if the invite is still open. :D

Sure, always welcome. I'm allways interested in other's experiences.
Should have a summer-evening ride some time.

Evening ? Ouch. I have a serious problem of night time vision. I try to avoid riding or driving at night altogether. But no worries, we'll manage something soon.

Problems.

I got my 2820 yesterday.
I did the Bluetooth connection with the Nokia 6680 without problems, put in the code that was required. I got mutual recognition by both machines.
I subsequently connected my 6680 to the Baehr, via a cable and an adaptor. Got a phone call from the dealer, and didn't hear a thing. Took it off Bluetooth, only with the cable, noting. He could hear me, I couldn't hear him.

Today, I connected my old Ericsson to the cable and it does work perfectly. This is the setup that I'm going to travel to France and Switzerland with. Pity I can't use the phone features on the 2820 for it.

When I tried dialling from the GPS with the phone on Bluetooth, it told me to connect a mike to the GPS. There IS a port for that, as well as an audio out port. I wonder if I plug in the wire from Baehr into the microphone port of the GPS wether I could be heard.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find someone to lend me an Ericsson with Bluetooth. I'd have connected it to the GPS, and also via cable. The brand new one I got had a different socket...

My Garmin dealer will get in touch with Baehr, and Garmin and we'll try to find a suitable solution. Stay tuned.

For the rest, I just LOVE the 2820. It's FAST, it's very clear, and the RTM 11 module works like a charm. You can see traffic problems on your screen, just like with a big GPS. Love the display.

Tomorrow it's off to the Vogesen, and the day after to our yearly meet. This year it's in Switzerland, and I'll be extremely happy to meet Reto Gisler, who's going to guide the vast majority of the guys through a fantastic tour on Friday.
